GT Carts grew out of Gritten Turf Company, a golf course aeration business that brothers Matt and Ben Gritten launched in 1999, when they were so young that course superintendents sometimes handed them summer job applications. Their brother Jason joined in 2001, and the turf company expanded purely through word of mouth. It came to serve everyone from small family-run courses to prestigious country clubs, athletic complexes, stadiums, and NASCAR facilities.

The cart business began with a run-down building. For years the brothers stored their equipment in their grandfather's old milking barn. After he passed away, they bought the property that would become the first GT Carts dealership. To fund its repairs, they refurbished a few golf carts and set them out front in 2011. GT Carts officially opened in 2012 and became an E-Z-GO dealer in the spring of 2013.

Today GT Carts operates four Indiana locations, in Monticello, Cicero, Martinsville, and Knox, offering new and used gas and electric carts. The dealer is known as a leader in customized golf carts and has built them for leisure, sport, and even police forces. Its team of mechanics, painters, assemblers, and attendants works under quality control processes so that every cart meets expectations. E-Z-GO named GT Carts its 2024 Midwest Region Dealer of the Year.
